THE government’s campaign against illegal drugs will continue and remain relentless, said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during his State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 24, 2023.

In its aim to purge the Philippines of illegal drugs, the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, who ruled the country in 2016 to 2022, waged war against it, resulting in the killing of thousands of people. The Duterte administration’s drug war is now aMarcos assured Monday that the drug war has taken a new face since he assumed office in July 2022.

He highlighted the launching in December 2022 of “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan,” also known as Bida program, an “intensified and more holistic campaign” against illegal drugs by the Department of the Interior and Local Government . Balay Silangan, implemented since 2018, is a community-based reformation program that aims to rehabilitate drug surrenderers in the facility provided by local government units .
