After years of construction, the Binondo – Intramuros Bridge will be accessible to the public by next month, the Department of Public Works and Highways announced on Thursday, March 17.

The project, which is under the Build Build Build Program, involves the construction of 680-meter linear bridge connecting the district of Intramuros to Binondo District. It is funded by a grant from the Government of China, which is under contract with China Road and Bridge Corporation. In a statement, DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado said that the agency plans to inaugurate the project led by Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain by Holy Week.

Workers are currently installing access ramps, inner and outer guard rails, lamp posts, repainting steel components, and other minor tasks. “With its location over Pasig River and pathways for pedestrians, joggers, and bikers, it is expected that the Binondo – Intramuros Bridge, once opened, will attract the selfie-stick tourists who normally flood every square inch of scenic spots in Manila, especially during sunset time,” Sadain said.
