An official of the regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways raised concern on the prevalence of streetlamp theft along the Davao City Bypass Coastal Road. Half of the number of streetlights along the coastal road are non-operational due to stolen wires or cables. This is from the abutment of the Talomo-Matina Bridge towards the Talomo area section.
Dean Ortiz, spokesperson of DPWH 11, said on Friday that theft has been a prevalent problem since the department implemented the Davao City Coastal project in 2017. “This has been subject to criticisms over the past few months since we opened the Davao City Coastal Road, particularly on streetlighting. This has been a prevalent problem ever since we implemented this project, it’s really prone to theft. Ang ginabuhat nila kawaton ang cable and ibaligya ra pud sa mga junkshops,” Ortiz said before the members of the City Council.“Mismong ang mga poste ilahang gina-tamper and ginabira tung mga cable nga naa didto and these cables are hundred meters ang length.
