THE government remains optimistic that expelled congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr. will be sent back to the Philippines to face murder charges despite his efforts to stay in Timor Leste.

The Department of Justice issued this statement Tuesday after Teves , tagged as the mastermind in the March 4, 2023 assassination of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and five other people, was rearrested by the Polícia Nacional of Timor Leste following his temporary release.'We extend our deepest gratitude to the government of Timor Leste for their unwavering cooperation,' Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said.

Remulla acknowledged the decisive actions taken by the Timor Leste government and law enforcement officials to rearrest Teves, a designated terrorist and fugitive from justice.'This apprehension marks a pivotal moment in our relentless pursuit of justice,' he said.
