The DOJ has declared that the government would not comply with any demand from the ICC in connection with its plan to reopen the investigation on the alleged crimes committed against humanity.

THE Department of Justice has declared that the government would not comply with any demand from the International Criminal Court in connection with its plan to reopen the investigation on the alleged crimes committed against humanity in former President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s bloody campaign against illegal drugs.

The ICC deferred its probe on the matter last November 20, 2021 upon the request of the Philippine government to give way for the DOJ and other agencies to investigate the killings. However, Remulla said the justice department has already provided Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra some information with regard to some of the case folders in the justice department pertaining to anti-illegal drug cases where deaths occurred.

He said that the ICC should only enter countries where there is no existing judicial system, which is not the case in the Philippines.
