The Department of Justice and the Department of Interior and Local Government signed the revised implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act 10592 on Friday.

Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez highlighted that this initiative aims to alleviate overcrowding in correctional facilities, potentially benefiting around 9,000 PDLs. “Our promise back then was to release 300 PDLs a month, but BuCor, under the leadership of DG Catapang, was able to release more than 8,000 PDLs in 2023, or more than double what we promised the UNHCR,” Vasquez said.
