TACLOBAN CITY - Tacloban City, along with four municipalities in Eastern Visayas were able to control the local transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) according to the Department of Health (DOH-8).

TACLOBAN CITY – Tacloban City, along with four municipalities in Eastern Visayas were able to control the local transmission of coronavirus disease according to the Department of Health .“The early implementation of lockdown and the immediate isolation/quarantine of returning residents have greatly reduced the transmission of infection,” DOH-8 said.

Tacloban City has recorded a total of 58 cases, La Paz, Leyte with 16, Burauen, Leyte with eight, and Tarangnan, Samar with 35. As of Thursday, DOH-8 has reported zero active cases in these areas. The previous declaration of local transmission has also been lifted in this city and in the four municipalities.

DOH-8 has also recorded seven new recoveries, bringing the total number of COVID-19 recoveries to 493 or 80.69 percent out of 611 cases. These include a total of 98 or 94.23 percent recoveries of health workers who are now back to work. Only one healthcare worker of Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center here has COVID-19, while all employees of DOH-8 have already recovered from the infection.

Meanwhile, DOH-8 pointed out that in order for a province, city, or municipality to declare their area as COVID-free, it must have no new recorded COVID-19 case for the past two incubation periods or 28 days.
