The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported two new cases of firecracker-related injuries, bringing the total to 25.
In its report, the DOH said this is 108% higher compared to last year's 13 cases, but 61% lower than the five-year average of 92 cases during the same time period.
Meanwhile, 21 cases or 84% were due to illegal fireworks while seven or 30% were due to "boga," according to the DOH.According to the DOH, the age of the victims ranged from 6 to 34 years old. Seven cases had high blast or burn injury that required amputation, 13 cases had blast or burn injury that did not require amputation, six cases had an eye injury and four sustained multiple types of injuries, the DOH said. Fifteen were active users.
The DOH said 11 cases occurred at home, 12 cases occurred on the street, one occurred at a workplace, and one at a basketball court.
