The Department of Health has confirmed that there are no cases of Nipah virus in the Philippines amid increasing reports of flu-like illnesses in Cagayan de Oro.
"The DOH officially maintains that there are no Nipah virus cases in the nation," DOH Northern Mindanao office said in a statement Wednesday.
Some schools in Cagayan de Oro City suspended classes due to a rise in the number of people with flu-like symptoms. The DOH urged the public to practice handwashing, wear face masks, ensure proper ventilation, and isolate if symptomatic. The state of Kerala in India is racing to contain a new outbreak of Nipah virus, which has killed two people so far and infected five.
