MANILA — The Department of Health on Tuesday said it is already investigating reports of hospitals refusing to accommodate emergency cases.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said this after media reported that a pregnant woman died after being turned away by several hospitals.
Vergeire, during a virtual briefing with reporters on Tuesday morning, said the DOH already ordered the investigation of how several hospitals in Caloocan denied the admission of a 28-year-old pregnant woman. “Ngayong araw po pupuntahan po at titignan ng ating regional staff doon po sa Caloocan kung ano po ang nangyari talaga sa ating pasyente na apparently nagkaroon ng bad outcome dahil natanggihan,” she said.“So yung last week namin na report sa atin ay pinaimbistagahan na natin.
“Wala po silang karapatang tumanggi sa mga pasyente dahil meron tayong batas, 'yung Anti-Hospital Deposit Law kung saan nakalagay mismo if it's emergency cases they are not allowed to refuse patients. If they would want to transfer the patient for whatever reason because of current capacity they have to stabilize the patient first bago nila ito ilipat,” she explained.
