The Department of Health (DOH) has removed the requirement for senior citizens to present their medicine discount booklets when purchasing medications. This change aims to ease the process for seniors and provide more convenient access to their benefits.
SENIOR citizens (SC) will no longer be required to present their booklets in order to avail of discounts when purchasing their medicines.According to the Department of Health (DOH), the requirement has been removed from the implementing rules of the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.'Seniors need the discount on their medicines, and we must make it easy for them to access that,' said Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa in a statement.
'We, at the DOH, are giving this gift of convenience and more affordable medicines to all of our senior citizens,' he added. The health chief explained that the decision was made to ease the process for senior citizens in obtaining their benefits when purchasing medicines.'The Department recognizes that requiring senior citizens to present purchase booklets during every transaction to avail themselves of the 20 percent discount on medicine purchases creates unnecessary burdens and difficulties,' said Herbosa.Previously, senior citizens were required to present their purchase booklet, a valid ID, and a doctor's prescription to drugstores and pharmacies to receive a discount. However, under DOH Administrative Order No. 2024-0017, the DOH has revised the provisions that required the presentation of their purchase booklets.
