THE Department of Health has maintained that their decisions regarding the country’s coronavirus disease 2019 response, which include the use of antibody rapid test kits , are all based on the collegial decisions of health experts.

This, after Palace spokesman Harry Roque Jr. told a group of businessmen, led by Presidential Adviser on Entrepreneurship Jose Maria “Joey” Concepcion 3rd, on Thursday that he had faith in the RTKs amid concerns raised by different groups of health care professionals regarding its reliability and sensitivity.

“I was an ardent supporter of rapid test kits, arguing that it should be continued to be used for specific purposes, but, of course, some quarters did not like rapid test kits. That is why we were not able to derive the same benefits from RTKs as other countries due to lack of openness from some individuals or some groups” he said.

Vergeire said that while RTKs could be used to immediately detect the possible presence of Covid-19 antibodies, they should be used in accordance with its accuracy that would not create more harm than good on the population. The DoH has earlier banned the RTKs as a protocol for returning to work because it can show immunoglobulins present on the person, signifying the presence of antibodies and not of the virus itself. The Manila Times NewsletterYou have successfully joined our subscriber list.
