HOURS before the world welcomes 2025, the Department of Health expressed on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, readiness to handle firecracker-related injuries involving New Year revelers. In a television interview, DOH spokesman Dr. Albert Domingo said all government hospitals have already been on Code White since December 21, and this status will be in effect until the early part of January 2025.'We are very much prepared.
Data from the DOH showed 188 firecracker-related injuries recorded between December 22 and December 31 . This is 52 percent higher compared to the same period last year, which saw 124 injured revelers. In the last 24 hours, the DOH recorded 25 new victims of firecrackers. Of the firecracker injuries, there were 136 caused by illegal firecrackers, such as boga, 5-star, and piccolo. The DOH also noted that 123 of the victims are considered as active users of firecrackers.
