According to Kuya Kim's Sunday report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, that figure is not accurate anymore.Currently, the Philippines has 7,641 islands.
The very first scientific map of the Philippines is the Velarde Map. It was created by Murillo Velarde in 1734. It's also called the "Mother of all Philippine Maps," which became instrumental in asserting the country's territorial rights in the West Philippine Sea. And here's more geography trivia for you: the geographical center of the Philippine archipelago is the heart-shaped island province of Marinduque, home to the oldest religious festival in the country, the Moriones Festival.
