Opposition Senator Leila de Lima said the documented bad behavior of rapist and murderer Antonio Sanchez militates against his possible release from the national penitentiary through parole or pardon.
The detained lawmaker issued the statement following earlier statements from the Department of Justice that Sanchez, a former Calauan Mayor, might be released 16 years short of his 40-year prison term for good conduct.Guevarra ignores accusation he used Sanchez case to enrage public into supporting death penalty revival
This was later doused by prison authorities following public outcry against his possible release because of his continuing criminal activities while in prison. De Lima, a justice secretary in the previous administration, said the problem lay in the ‘’misapplication or warped or twisted application of the law and possible abuses in its implementation for some insidious agenda.’’
De Lima is under detention at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Quezon City on alleged illegal drug-related charges. She said the seizure of illegal drugs from Sanchez, while in prison compound negates his being released for ‘’good conduct.’’
