TRANSPORTATION Secretary Vince Dizon warned shipping companies that they will face severe consequences if they continue to overload their vessels for profit, causing significant inconvenience to passengers.
The warning was issued after Dizon directed the Philippine Coast Guard , Philippine Ports Authority , and Maritime Industry Authority to issue a show cause order against a Romblon-bound vessel that violated the anti-overloading policy. 'This is a warning to all shipping lines: do not, under any circumstances, repeat this. You will face the consequences,' he emphasized during his inspection at the Manila North Port Passenger Terminal.
Dizon also underscored the importance of government collaboration with local shipping operators and investors to encourage investments in additional vessels. He emphasized that Manila historically served as a central hub for domestic vessels connecting to all major islands in the Philippines, and that increasing the number of vessels is essential to cater to the growing population's travel needs.
