A West Chezzetcook plumber knew something was wrong when two customers paid him by e-transfer, but the money didn’t show up.

“The majority of the payments that he receives from his customers are made to him in the form of e-transfers that are sent to his work Hotmail email account,” RCMP Const. Matthew McCabe said in an application for a production order.

“The RBC also confirmed that the e-transfer was deposited, on the same date, into Valencia Nsungu Kayembe.” Sanford, who works at the Porters Lake Pub, confirmed he’d sent Moulton an e-transfer for about $1,000 from the business’ RBC account between Jan. 11-12, 2022.Zwicker told police Moulton had installed a new water heater for him on Jan. 10, 2022. He remembered sending the plumber an e-transfer to cover the bill, “and the payment was accepted,” McCabe said.

Simplii Financial is the digital banking division of the CIBC. As of November 2021, it boasted of almost two million clients. McCabe got the production order from a justice of the peace and seized the bank documents he was looking for on June 30, 2022.“They know who they were,” Moulton said, “but I’m still waiting to hear back from the police up there.”“Normally if it’s less than $5,000 international, nobody gives a damn,” he said. “But I was happy to see it was still in Canada, because there was a chance I was going to get my money back.
