The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) cited on Thursday the Philippine National Police (PNP) and host local government units (LGUs) for maintaining law and order for the duration of the recently concluded 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games which the country hosted.
Believed to be the largest in history and the “safest SEA Games ever”, the DILG said the success of the games may be attributed to the concerted efforts of the organizing committee, the various national sports organizations, and the public in general.
Año said the overall championship won by the Philippines is not solely about the 387 medals garnered by its athletes but also points to the country’s readiness and capability to host international sporting events. The DILG chief said this will also go down in history as the best and safest ever hosting of the SEA games with no serious or major untoward incident reported to mar the SEA Games.
In Metro Manila alone there were 18,105 officers securing the competitions, 6,554 in Central Luzon, 1,865 in Southern Luzon, and 916 in La Union.
