Former President Rodrigo Duterte and his sons Paolo and Sebastian will run for the Senate in the next year’s elections, according to Vice President and outgoing Department of Education Secretary Sara Duterte.
She disclosed the information during an informal interview with reporters at an event in Cagayan de Oro City on Tuesday. Duterte next year… Yes, confirmed,” Sara was quoted saying, referring to her father and brothers. Paolo is the incumbent first district representative of Davao City, while Sebastian or ‘Baste’ sits as mayor.
The Vice President further mentioned their mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, is trying to convince her to return to local politics as Davao City mayor, replacing her younger brother. Sara, however, remains undecided with respect to her future plans.Last January, the 79-year-old former president claimed he wanted to retire from politics because he has grown tired of it. The Duterte patriarch is known to keep his supporters and opponents guessing about his political plans.
Sara recently stepped down as DepEd chief and Vice Chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict , essentially leaving the Marcos Cabinet.
