THE Department of Information and Communications Technology said Wednesday, October 11, 2023, that it will appeal the decision of the House of Representatives to not give the agency confidential funds under the 2024 National Expenditure Program .In a television interview, DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy noted the importance of confidential funds in guarding the country’s cyber space.
“What if our entire financial and banking system gets shut down for one day? What will be the economic cost of that? What if it gets shut down for a week or a month and we cannot restore it? What about our energy grids? Telecommunications, transportation? You saw that airport shut down for one day. What chaos it created?” he said.“There will be more of those that will happen because we have no cyber security budget to prevent those from happening,” he added.
