Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega made the remark on Tuesday after a strained tie between Manila and Kuwait, which stemmed from the suspension of new entry visas for Filipinos. ManilaBulletin READ:
The swift and sudden repatriation of a significant number of Filipino workers from Kuwait is actually a "positive development" on the relations between the two countries.
"That is a positive development because those 600 or so, including 353, who flew just the past weekend... had been waiting for months and months. And that was an issue between the Philippines and Kuwait," de Vega said in an interview with ANC. Because of that, shelters at the embassy for runaway Filipinos—which were actually what angered the Kuwaiti government—are now already decongested.
