MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday it extended the closure of its consular offices in Luzon until April 30 because of the prolonged lockdown.
Passport applicants with confirmed appointments from March 9 to April 30 will be accommodated starting May 4 until July 31, the DFA said.
The same dates will be available to those seeking authentication, visa, and civil registration services, it added. The DFA also reminded the public about delays in the production, delivery and availability of passports in the country, as well as in Philippine embassies and consulates general abroad, due to logistical limitations caused by the enhanced community quarantine. The entire Luzon, home to about half of the country's 100 million people, and other areas have placed quarantine measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
The DFA earlier reduced its staff in the Visayas and Mindanao who will provide service to those with urgent consular needs such as overseas Filipino workers. As of Monday, the Philippines has 4,932 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 242 recoveries and 315 deaths.
