The Department of Foreign Affairs has denied that the pullout of Philippine Coast Guard patrol vessel BRP Teresa Magbanua from Escoda Shoal was part of the deal it forged with China last week.High-ranking diplomatic officials from the Philippines and China held another Bilateral Consultative Meeting in Beijing over the standoff in the Escoda Shoal last September 12. Both sides held their positions over their claims and presence on the atoll.

China Coast Guard spokesman Liu Dejun confirmed that they monitored BRP Teresa Magbanua had “evacuated” from the lagoon of Escoda Shoal . Liu Dejun, spokesman of the CCG, said the PCG vessel has been “illegally stranded” at Escoda Shoal for nearly five months and they have taken “control measures” – the last of which include ramming the ship three times causing damage on the vessel.

“During this period, China took control measures on ship No. 9701 in accordance with the law, and the Philippines repeatedly attempted to organize forced shipments but failed,” Liu said in a statement.
