Citing reports, the Department of Foreign Affairs says the Filipinos 'were playing in the sea during a heavy storm, when they were swept away and have not been seen since then.' Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

— Two Filipinos have gone missing in Phuket, Thailand after being swept to the sea during a storm, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

The DFA said the incident happened at Freedom Beach on Wednesday, but did not disclose the names of the missing Filipinos. Citing reports, the DFA said the Filipinos"were playing in the sea during a heavy storm, when they were swept away and have not been seen since then." Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

According to Thai media, the government has issued a weather warning that day for Phuket and the Andaman coast due to a strong southwest monsoon and what was then a tropical depression in the northern part of the Philippines. Tropical Storm FalconThe government assured that the Philippine Embassy is"actively monitoring" the situation and working with the Thai authorities to find the missing Filipinos.

"The Embassy continues to coordinate with the authorities on the case, as well as respond to the needs of the Filipino family and friends of the two missing Filipinos," the DFA statement read.
