A regional office of the Department of Education has suspended physical and online classes in public schools in Calabarzon from Jan. 17 to 29 amid soaring COVID-19 cases in the region.

The regional office's memorandum shared on Friday also states the schedule of the midyear break will still be from Jan. 31 to Feb. 5.

Private schools, meanwhile, can exercise their own discretion on the suspension of classes when COVID-19 risks in their areas are high. DepEd on Tuesday gave its regional and school division offices the authority to suspend classes as the country continues to tally record-high new COVID-19 cases.
