Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario is mulling seeking for the help of Vice President Leni Robredo to help the Filipino fishermen aggrieved in the Recto Bank incident.

His ₱500,000 donation for the 22 fishermen from the F/B Gem-Ver, which sank after a Chinese vessel rammed into it last June 10, was returned to him by Foreign Affairs Chief Teodoro"Teddyboy" Locsin Jr. on Monday. Locsin said the department cannot dispense donations.

The Office of the Vice President, through their program Angat Buhay, donated ₱50,000 to each fisherman. The donation was given when Vice President Leni Robredo visited the fishermen on June 21 in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro — making her the highest government official to visit the crew. The Duterte administration also loaned ₱25,000 to each fishermen of the F/B Gem-Ver.

The Philippines and China are open to a joint investigation on what happened in the Recto Bank boat mishap, amid criticisms and doubts on the results of the probe.
