Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said Wednesday that if recent diplomatic protests filed with China fail to produce outcomes, the Philippines should head over to the United Nations to seek assistance.

In December, Del Rosario floated the idea of submitting a resolution to the UNGA to pressure China into following the 2016 ruling of an international tribunal which invalidated Beijing's claims to practically the entire South China Sea based on historic rights. China has refused to observe the ruling, continuing with its military activities in the waterway.

That prompted current foreign affairs chief Teodoro"Teddyboy" Locsin Jr. to file a diplomatic protest with Beijing, a move which Del Rosario lauded.
