Greenwood, originally from Colchester County, was convicted in 2018 for the murder of a Hants County couple in 2000. The Nova Scotia Court of Appeal threw out the convictions this past July. The ruling threw out the two first-degree murder convictions from early 2018 and ordered a new trial, saying the judge hearing the case erred on several issues during the one-month trial in Kentville Supreme Court.

It was the second time Greenwood won an appeal in the case. He was first convicted in 2012 in the deaths of Barry Mersereau and Nancy Christensen, who were shot to death in their Centre Burlington, Hants County home on Sept. 9, 2000. He wasn’t arrested until 2010.
