Quebec’s human rights commission drops nearly 200 cases after Supreme Court decision

The activity report found the commission received 2,290 requests for investigation during the 2021-22 fiscal year and opened 548 probes, down sharply from the 839 launched the year before.

The commission recorded an overall drop in the number of racial profiling cases it investigated, opening 69 during the last fiscal year compared to 86 in fiscal 2020-21 and 76 the year before that. At the time, it said it had seen a drop in requests for investigations involving young people, attributing the decline to the fact that children had less supervision from adults outside the home during extended lockdown measures.
