State Opposition Leader John Pesutto has been issued an ultimatum by controversial MP Moira Deeming to publicly declare she’s not a Nazi sympathiser and allow her to return to the Liberal party room or face legal action.

The latest development has again plunged the party into crisis amid claims that “terrorists” in the parliamentary party room are trying to undermine Pesutto’s leadership.Credit:Pesutto confirmed on Thursday he had been given a deadline of 2pm to issue a statement to “exonerate” Deeming or her lawyers would commence legal proceedings.

Within hours of Pesutto’s press conference, the Western Metropolitan MP was back on Twitter assuring Jones and Keen-Minshull she hadn’t condemned them.Pesutto told a press conference on Thursday that nothing in the dossier ever accused Deeming of being a Nazi or having Nazi sympathies. Earlier on Thursday, News Corp papers published stories that quoted anonymous Liberal MPs who claimed they were considering lodging a formal bullying complaint against the Victorian opposition leader over his treatment of upper house MP Renee Heath during a recent meeting.

On Tuesday, she provided three different versions of the minutes from March, with some MPs questioning whether quotes contained in the second and third versions were generated from a secret recording, according to those who were in the room. One Liberal, speaking on the condition of anonymity, toldthat Pesutto was calm, just wanted to get the minutes right and said words to the effect: “It’s OK, I’m not having a go at you.

Speaking to ABC Radio Melbourne on Thursday, Pesutto said it was not correct to describe the exchange in question as bullying. He added that he was simply trying to address the conflicting minutes. “It’s disappointing, actually, that these sorts of allegations are being made,” she said. “John is a very good, decent man.”
