SEN. Christopher Lawrence 'Bong' Go stressed the need to decongest the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) and further improve its services to serve more Filipinos.

'The state of the National Center for Mental Health is in need of utmost attention and improvement to preserve the basic right of all Filipinos to health care,' the chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography said.He also cited the need to look into the cases of those who are already considered 'fit' to be discharged but have nowhere to go.'Is the DSWD capable of accommodating them in halfway houses?' Go asked.

He said that some patients admitted to the NCMH who were facing cases in court must be assessed to determine whether they should remain in the center or be transferred to other facilities.'What should be the proper referral system for patients with pending cases?' Go asked.The senator said patients should be given proper care, including medication and nutrition.Go has filed Senate Bill 1321 or the proposed 'Specialty Centers in Every Region Act of 2022.
