Infectious diseases expert Robert Booy says requiring Chinese travellers to provide a negative RAT test before arriving in Australia is 'not that difficult' despite fears the tourism sector could be impacted.
"But requiring people to have a negative test is not such a big deal to make sure we don’t get another surge in Australia," he added.
"Our travel advice hasn't changed at this point in time but we'll continue to monitor the situation as we do right around the world and update our advice when it's appropriate," he told the Today show. But shadow trade and tourism minister Kevin Hogan urged the Albanese Government to"clearly explain" why Australia was not following in the footsteps of other countries.
