The death toll from floods triggered by low pressure areas and the shear line since January 2 has increased to 35, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Monday.The agency said 12 more people were injured and 7 remain missing.Most of the deaths were in the Zamboanga Peninsula at 12.Northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, and the Bicol region reported eight, seven, and six deaths, respectively.Davao Region and Soccsksargen had one death each.
On the other hand, 31,617 families or 121,996 individuals were affected by the torrential rain and floods.Damage to agriculture was pegged at P751.9 million while destruction to infrastructure was estimated at P276.7 million.At least 13 provinces and 17 municipalities remain under the states of calamity.The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that the shear line and the northeast monsoon or amihan continue to affect the country.
