As the Vancouver election campaign enters its final days, candidates and parties focus on connecting directly with voters.
Candidates and campaign managers for several parties said this week they are confident in their ground game, meaning door-knocking, phoning, and other direct contact with voters. But unlike the air war, meaning their visibility and advertising, it’s more difficult to compare the success of each party’s ground game until the results come in on Saturday.
“It’s a hard campaign to run, you have to have nerves of steel. Because when they’re doing all that advertising, you’re not pushing back in the same way, what you’re doing is talking directly to folks,” Stewart said Thursday. “And you don’t know how successful you are until election day.”Article content
Of course, that means TEAM can’t outspend its rivals, Tieleman said. “We’re David facing not one, but two Goliaths.” Stewart and Hardwick have both recently emphasized that Sim has no experience in elected office, and has not been visibly involved in municipal affairs for the past four years. Stewart, a former NDP member of Parliament, also hopes to benefit from the popularity of the B.C. and federal NDP among Vancouverites, after receiving endorsements from David Eby, Jagmeet Singh and other big names.
