ONLY 55 days to the 12-day UN Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, some countries this early have shown they are “holding back” their positions until they know who sits in the White House.
The 12-day Azerbaijan conference, which starts on Nov. 11, is expected to focus on finance, as trillions of dollars are required for countries to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods from the worsening impacts of climate change. To accelerate its transition to a green economy, the country also aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 35 percent of the power generation mix by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040.
