Ang daily minimum wage sa Metro Manila, hindi na umano makasabay sa inflation rate, o bilis ng pagtaas ng mga bilihin sa bansa, base sa pag-aaral ng IBON Foundation.
Pagtitipid din ang solusyon ng minimum wage earner na si Mace Gime, na dalawang taon nang head barista sa isang coffee shop sa Quezon City.
Ayon sa executive director ng IBON Foundation na si Sonny Africa, “Nabawasan pa yung halaga ng sahod ngayon sa nakaraang dalawang taon more or less ni Pangulong Marcos, kasi yung binigay niyang umento, isang beses lamang na P40. Hindi niya binawi yung pagtaas ng presyo ng bilihin, sa nakaraang dalawang taon.”
“Hindi yun tama na yung nag-iincrease na productivity ng manggagawa mas malaking bahagi napupunta sa kumpanya bilang tubo, sa halip na mapupunta sa manggagawa bilang kita sa kaniyang pagtatrabaho,” sabi ni Africa. “Ang hahabulin diyan, dalawang bagay: inflation sa nakaraang tatlo’t kalahating dekada na hindi kasi sumabay, at yung kulang na sahod noong 1989,” ayon kay Africa.
