DAGUPAN CITY – Mayor Belen Fernandez here assured support to the family of Marjorette Gonzales Garcia, the 32-year-old overseas Filipino worker killed by a colleague in Saudi Arabia recently.

MAYOR Belen Fernandez leads a tribute to slain overseas Filipino worker Marjorette Garcia in Dagupan City.

Fernandez expressed sympathy and provided financial assistance to Garcia’s family during a simple program on Thursday, October 19, led by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration as the OFW’s remains were transferred to Barangay Bonuan Boquig here from Awai, San Jacinto, Pangasinan."This is particularly a difficult and painful time for her family and friends.

Garcia, from Barangay Bonuan Boquig, resided with her husband in San Jacinto with their two children, Jake Moises, 9, and May Jee, 6, before she was deployed to Saudi Arabia on October 17, 2021. "In these difficult times, we take our hats off to Marjorette and all OFWs around the world for their selfless sacrifices. We know that Filipino workers like Marjorette are honored and celebrated in the countries where they are found for their hard work and dedication because they all help the world economy remain afloat," Fernandez added.

On October 14 in San Jacinto, Fernandez joined OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio, Department of Migrant Workers officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Pangasinan Rep. Christopher de Venecia, Gov. Ramon Guico III, Vice Gov. Mark Lambino, and OWWA Regional Director Gerardo Rimorin during a solemn tribute to Garcia.
