Dumaguete City - Jirah Floravie Cutiyog reigned supreme in the 2024 National Age Group Chess Championships Under-16 girls standard tournament elimination at the Oriental Convention Center here on Tuesday.
The 15-year-old Cutiyog defeated Kristel Love Nietes in 58 moves of Scandinavian Defense in the final round to clinch the crown with 7.5 points.'I am very happy with my victory because almost all of the top players in Dumaguete and nearby provinces as well as those from Metro Manila joined the tournament,' said Cutiyog , a grade 9 student of Bethel Academy of Sta Clara, General Trias, Cavite.
Trias City Mayor Luis Ferrer IV, Vice Mayor Jonas Glyn Labuguen, Cavite Sixth Dist. Rep. Antonio Ferrer, city sports head Rodolfo Comandante Jr. and her school, Bethel Academy. Cutiyog is fresh from topping the 1st HS Tabernilla Surveying and Engineering Services Open Rapid Chess Tournament held at the City of Imus Sports Complex, Imus, Cavite on May 11.
