AN infectious disease expert believes that the current border protocols in the country are enough amid calls to strengthen them to prevent a similar surge of the coronavirus disease 2019 cases in China.The country currently allows vaccinated Filipinos and foreign nationals to skip pre-departure testing, while unvaccinated Filipinos are subjected to testing upon arrival.This comes as an infectious subvariant, XBB1.
Rontgene Solante, head of the adult infectious disease and tropical medicine section of San Lazaro Hospital, said that the current protocols are still enough, noting that the level of protection from unvaccinated individuals is lower than those who had been vaccinated.'Mas lalong tumatagal ang virus sa katawan mo pag wala tayong bakuna , and they are most vulnerable and they can also transmit that to anybody na wala pang bakuna , ' Solante added.
