A bill banning the export of plastic waste has been revived in the Senate after an identical one died in 2021. “There’s still a lot of plastic in the ocean, and we need to make sure we are doing our best to reduce it,” Sen. Claude Carignan says.

Last year, Conservative MP Scot Davidson watched as his private member’s bill focused on prohibiting the exportation of plastic waste was killed. The demise ofwas not caused by a lack of support but rather an election that was called as the proposed piece of legislation was making its way through the Senate.

“It needed 20 minutes for a vote in the Senate, but an election was called, and the bill died on the order paper,” said Davidson.immediately following the 2021 federal election. The Conservative senator’s bill was clearly inspired by Davidson — the two bills are verbatim.
