Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone admits the mental challenge his team faces going into Game 7 after losing Game 6 to TNT in the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals. Cone emphasized the psychological impact of a loss, especially in a do-or-die scenario like Game 7.
Tim Cone , the seasoned coach of the Barangay Ginebra Kings, acknowledged the uphill battle his team faces heading into Game 7 of the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup Finals against the TNT Tropang Giga. The series is tied at 3-3, setting the stage for a decisive showdown. Cone emphasized the psychological toll that a loss can have on a team, particularly when facing a game of such magnitude as Game 7 .
'For the multi-titled mentor entering such a crucial contest coming off a loss is a lot harder than coming into a Game 7 after a win in Game 6 – which logically gives that team the momentum and the boost in morale,' Cone said after Ginebra's 87-83 defeat in Game 6. 'Game Sevens are never just another game. They're tough games, tough to prepare for, especially when you come off a loss,' he added. 'I think it's a little bit harder going into Game 7 when you're coming off a loss, rather than coming off a win. It's tougher mentally to get right within 24 hours and ready to play. So that's gonna be our challenge.' Cone also expressed frustration with Ginebra's inability to capitalize on its opportunities, despite being in a position to win the game. The Kings and the Tropang Giga were locked in a tight battle throughout the first three quarters. However, Poy Erram, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, and Rey Nambatac led a TNT resurgence. Even though Ginebra remained within striking distance, costly errors and missed free throws proved to be their undoing. 'We played the game we wanted, but they were just better at it than we were tonight. They made big shots, they made big stops, forced turnovers on us,' Cone said. 'And we tried to stay in the game. Like I said, it's the kind of game we wanna play. It's the kind of game that we hope to play. But again, tonight they were better at it than we were. So we'll see what we can do in Game 7.' Cone, however, understands that dwelling on the loss is not an option with the quick turnaround before Game 7 on Friday, March 28, at the same venue.
