MANILA, Philippines — Tim Cone holds rookie guard RJ Abarrientos in high regard as he refused to judge the former Gilas Pilipinas playmaker for his forgettable PBA debut last Saturday in Candon City.
In fact, the Barangay Ginebra mentor simply allowed the PBA Rookie Draft's third overall pick to shine right in the get go of their game against San Miguel Beer last Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.'RJ took his first open shot, knocked it down, took another shot and knocked it down.
Instead, he just sees the Ginebra rookie as just someone who needs some time to learn the triangle offense.'He's not a young guy we're trying to teach everything to. He's trying to learn our system,' he stressed. 'As everyone knows, our system is a little complicated in the beginning. He just needs to learn and settle down but he's got all the tools and the personality and the drive for success as well as basketball tools.
