Air raids by the Libyan National Army on Tripoli on Saturday are reported to have killed four people and wounded 20
Fighters loyal to the internationally recognised Government of National Accord hold a position on the frontline facing forces of the self-styled Libyan National Army, loyal to Libyan strongman Khalifa Haftar, south of the capital Tripoli’s suburb of Ain Zara, Libya, on April 28 2019.
"When we see the use of air power, the indiscriminate shelling of densely populated areas, it is very difficult to be optimistic," Do Valle Ribeiro, who is also the deputy UN envoy to Libya, said late on Sunday. The fighting has killed at least 278 people and wounded more than 1,300, according to a toll released Wednesday by the World Health Organisation.
People-smugglers have taken advantage of the lawlessness, ferrying mostly sub-Saharan Africans from Libyan shores to Europe.
