“Brandon is a wonderful human. He has the greatest sense of humour,” said one parent. “He’s kind, he’s caring. He’s anything you could ever want in a coach and a friend.”

Brandon MacInnis coached Jaime Harvey’s son Koben since he was a youngster involved in the Tiny Tots basketball program. She describes MacInnis as “a wonderful human” who is patient and kind. She doesn’t understand how Hantsport School could fire him as the junior boys’ coach. - ContributedHANTSPORT, N.S. — At the end of each Tiny Tots session, Brandon MacInnis would hoist the young players above his head so they could dunk the basketball.

“We’re trying to be positive and not start a mob or anything. They obviously think they have a reason; we would just really like to know what that could possibly be,” said Harvey, who has inspired a social media campaign aimed at showing the community’s love and support for MacInnis. The boys’ team was supposed to play a quarterfinal playoff game at 4 p.m. at KCA that day. But several of them opted not to play because their coach wouldn’t be there.“I was completely blindsided,” said MacInnis.

He said he wasn’t given a chance to explain or ask for clarity. He was simply told to hand in his keys as he was told “it was for the best interest for the kids that I no longer coach.”“My philosophy for coaching is hard work pays off; hold players accountable; and you treat them with respect. It’s all about the kids, it really is,” he said.

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, the Hantsport junior girls’ basketball team showed their support of Brandon MacInnis by wearing a B on their uniform during their semi-final game. He was moved by the gesture. - Contributed “I have had coaches who have coached me in high school and university contact me, just asking if I’m OK, if they can do anything for me,” said MacInnis. “I’ve had parents and local community members just reach out. There’s something to be said about this little town. There really is.”
