The camp of aspiring president Vice President Leni Robredo called the Tallano gold “a complete fiction,” as the spokesman of the dictator’s son Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. fell short on denying its existence.
MANILA, Philippines –
Robredo spokesperson Barry Gutierrez told Rappler on Tuesday, January 18, that Marcos Jr.’s camp should “come clean” on the false claims about Tallano gold.“Any candidate vying for high office must be uncompromising in upholding the truth, and senator Marcos himself must come clean and deny, once and for all, this fairy tale, to avoid further misleading the public,” he added.
“Even the Marcos camp has denied knowledge of this ‘myth,’ and yet our own on the ground experience indicates that there are those who believe it,” said Gutierrez. “Ang pagkalat ng kwento ay dulot ng isang detalyado at pantastikong istorya na may masasamang motibasyon sa likuran nito – una, ang linlangin ang mamamayan para mapagsamantalahan ang kanyang kahirapan at kawalan ng kaalaman sa usapin,”The veteran labor leader also said that false claims about Tallano gold were being perpetuated to remove the spotlight away from more pressing issues in the country.
