THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) will start 'Operation Baklas' in the coming days to remove 'unlawful' election materials posted by candidates for the October 30 barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (youth) elections (BSKE).

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said they will start removing illegal campaign materials once all the certificates of candidacy that were filed have been processed.Garcia said they will not allow any paraphernalia even if there is no 'Vote For' written on it.

He said they will also remove the posters of the candidates both in public or private places.'This is considered premature campaigning, especially since the CoC filing just ended,' Garcia said.He added that social media posts promoting the candidate before the official campaign period starts are also violations of the election rules. The campaign period for the BSKE will run from October 19 to 28.
