With the possible rescheduling of the parliamentary elections in October, the Commission on Elections announced on Thursday that a separate procurement process for the necessary budget would no longer be required.

With this development, the Comelec will no longer need to request additional funding to cover the P2.5 billion initially allocated for the separate Bangsamoro elections. Garcia noted that it remains uncertain whether the South Korean-based firm Miru Systems will once again be contracted as the election provider, as the Comelec will first evaluate its performance in the upcoming midterm elections.

On Tuesday, the bicameral conference committee adopted the Senate version of the bill, moving the BARMM elections to October 13—nearly five months after the midterm polls.
