THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has removed some 258,000 double or multiple registrations from the National List of Registered Voters (NLRV), Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said. READ HERE:
He said that 257,805 were purged during the first hearing of the Special Election Registration Board .'Another round of cleansing the voter's list will be concluded on July 27, if double/multiple records still remain, in connection with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections ,' the official added.
Registration applications accepted during said period were those of first-time Sangguniang Kabataan election voters and regular voters, transfer of voter registration record, reactivation of voting status and correction/change of entries in the voter registration record.Laudiangco said that registering more than once is an election offense punishable by six years in prison, forfeiture of right to suffrage, and perpetual disqualification to hold elected or appointed position in government.
