Comelec junks last disqualification case against Bongbong Marcos
THE Commission on Elections First Division has dismissed the last disqualification case filed against presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. due to “lack of merit.”
“If failure to file income tax return is considered alone, it would appear that it is not inherently wrong,” read the resolution. It also negates the tax evasion theory of the petitioners, noting that Marcos, as a public official at the time he failed to file his income tax return, was already a subject to withholding taxes and could not have intended to evade payment of his taxes.“He may have been neglectful in performing this obligation, it however does not reflect moral depravity,” the Comelec First Division said.
