THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has extended the filing of candidacy (CoC) for upcoming special elections in the third congressional district of Negros Oriental, which was declared vacant after the House of Representatives unseated fugitive lawmaker Arnolfo 'Arnie' Teves.
Teves was tagged as the brain behind the murder of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo last March. He has been charged with multiple murders, among other cases, but his whereabouts have remained unknown. The Commission en banc issued Comelec Resolution 10958, supplemental to CR 10957.Resolution 10958 resets the filing of CoC from November 6-8 to November 6-11, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.As per Comelec's record, nobody filed a CoC on Monday, the first day of the filing of CoC.
Chairman George Erwin Garcia said on Tuesday that the extended filing of the CoC was meant 'to give ample time for aspirants to file their CoC' thus the need to issue a supplemental resolution to 10957.The supplemental resolution is effective immediately following compliance with certain requirements, including the publication in two newspapers of general circulation.
